For half a century, Access Community Trust has been a cornerstone of support in Suffolk, transforming lives and strengthening communities. Established in 1975 as the Lowestoft Night Shelter, operating from St. John’s Church, it provided shelter for homeless individuals. In 1980, it became a registered charity and opened its first hostel, the Fyffe Centre.

Since then, the Trust has expanded its reach, developing supported housing projects that offer safe havens and pathways to independence. Their innovative mental health initiatives, delivered through community hubs and outreach programmes, provide crucial support and reduce stigma.

A shining example of their work is Sams Wellbeing Hub + Cafe in Lowestoft. This vibrant social enterprise serves as a crucial community hub, supporting individuals and fostering connections. Sams provides essential services, including employment support, mental health guidance and practical assistance like free meals for vulnerable families. Beyond direct aid, Sams hosts a diverse range of community events whilst also serving as a vital base for over 40 statutory organisations and local charities, facilitating broader community strengthening efforts.
